We at Glitter Gob demand an alternate universe where “Do Somethin’” by Britney Spears is a  #1 Billboard hit!

It’s catchy. Quirky. New wave-ish, glittery and gritty. Any 80s (or early 90s) pop music fan should shortlist “Do Somethin’” for the playlist.

Like us, you may ask…

Who directed this masterpiece? Who’s the stylist?  Choreographer?

Drum roll please…Britney, bitch!

Okay, Britney co-directed “Do Something” with Billy Woodruff. We just wanted to say “Britney, bitch” out loud, and you should too. But seriously, she did it all.

“Do Something” is an audio-visual glimpse of Britney in charge. We are here for it!

According to her white-hot memoir “The Woman in Me,"  Britney fought  hard for this video and shot it in a whopping five hours.  Intended as a bonus track for her Greatest Hits album, “Do Something” failed to get a proper release in the United States. Yet, its legacy lives on.

As DIY champions…this is why the iconic Britney B side hit the hearts, minds and bopping heads of Glitter Gob’s very own Kingston & GreyStarr:

“We fully relate to Britney producing the video, creating it, performing in it, choreographing it and getting it done on her own! We love the synchronized head twirls in the truck- and love that it feels like they are on a mother ship of some kind”.

Just like the Blackout album, the story behind Britney’s “Do Something” speaks to the spirit of DIY artists everywhere.

We give “Do Something” 5 out of 5 unicorns! Now excuse us while we go shop for some asymmetrical Capri pants!

Ever think of a long lost friend only to receive a message minutes later?

The Police wrote a song (and titled an album) about it: Synchronicity.

The Cambridge dictionary defines it as, “The happening by chance of two or more related or similar events at the same time…..”

Moby recently announced his first DJ gig in five years, ending a hiatus of “being anti social and not leaving the house much”.

Relatable, Moby. Relatable.

We at Glitter Gob can’t help but notice the Divine Timing of Moby’s resurrection. The announcement surfaced mere days after Kingston & GreyStarr’s new music video premiere of “Stop Stalking Me Moby”!

Produced by Howlpeak Productions, “Stop Stalking Me Moby” takes a psychedelic, lyrical time machine back to 2009, when Moby could be seen everywhere and anywhere south of 14th Street …. From Arlene’s Grocery Store to the local street fair.

Sigh… those were simpler times.

If Moby is that long lost classmate in the “other messages” folder… perhaps

Kingston & GreyStarr are the friend that thought of him first?

Synchronicity or coincidence? Either way, Moby, we are just glad to have you back!

Word on the street is that Moby’s return gig with Raul Campos will go down at Hollywood bar 'Golddiggers." Tickets are only $5! All ticket sales will benefit the Los Angeles Vegan Food Bank.

For more information about the Vegan Food Bank visit @vegansoflosangeles on Instagram or checkout the long form MobyPod interview with founder Gwenna Hunter.

We at Glitter Gob hope the tradition of Moby sightings in Los Angeles carry on the torch for those of us who lived it!

"So Close has a very intriguing storyline. At first, you may not really get the message, but it’s a song with rich, dark poetry. If you actually listen to the lyrics, a couple times through, you may figure out what the story is actually about," says Devon Thompson of her new single.

Explaining the ominous aura of “So Close”, Devon says, “I was on a little bit of a ‘serial killer documentary’ kick when I got the inspiration for this song,” she confesses. “It’s essentially a fictional story about a person who goes mad and kills their lover. Why did they do it? Did they do it because they’re just crazy? Did someone tell them to do it? In my head, they’ve been a serial killer all along, and one day something snaps in them, and all they can think about is the poetry and the beauty in their lover being buried in a beautiful garden."

Growing up in Los Angeles, Devon was an outsider and a lone wolf of sorts. Bullied and criticized as a kid for being an artist, overcoming these judgments helped guide her into being a stronger and more creative artist. In an effort to spare her the childhood cruelty, she moved schools multiple times which may have exacerbated that isolation but also helped turn her coping mechanism into a creative outlet. “When I struggle mentally, I use my writing for good and create stories where I can more positively influence myself,” she explains about the transformative power that her creativity has over past trauma. “Even if the concept is dark, it helps me so much to write about it, and write about it from someone else’s perspective.”

Now with a new single to launch more music planned, Devon Thompson is ready and gearing up for a busy 2024. “I have another single and an EP I am releasing in 2024 that I think really represent where I am at as an artist right now,” she concludes. “My goal is to share my music with people, connect everyone, and play TONS of shows.”

Speaking of shows, here's Devon's upcoming show schedule.
