Arlene’s Grocery Store. Pink Pony. Stanton Street.

Those who lived, worked or partied in the Myspace era of the LES likely remember these fixtures- all shouted out in the lead single off of Kingston & GreyStarr’s new EP “Back to the Glitterverse”.

One of the most notable mainstays, however, came in human DJ form.

“We know so many people that have a ‘running into Moby’ story. It’s definitely a ‘thing’” reminisces Barbara Serbes aka GreyStarr.

“Stop Stalking Me Moby” recounts an early 00’s fable of a Lower East Side resident- who ran into Moby so much- it warranted a song’s worth of sightings. Originally released on Streetlab Records in 2009, the obscure tune caught the eyes and ears of the East Coast alternative pop-rock duo.

“I dig the song because it reminds me of all the things I loved about NY from when I first moved here from England”, reminisces Amy Kingston Anderson aka “Kingston”. “Arelene’s Grocery is the first venue I saw a local band in when I first moved here. Some of my favorite venues are (were) in The LES… and only those who were actually there understand. It’s like being in a secret club.”

Updated with an industrial soundscape, wall of sound pop vocals and new GreyStarr penned verse (shouting out Moby’s TeaNY), “Stop Stalking Me Moby” will kick off “Back to the Glitterverse” release on September 22th.

The official music video will drop one week after the EP’s release.

“In making the video we wanted the stars to be Moby and The Lower East Side- we are really just the accessories selling the story” says GreyStarr.

What does Moby think of all of this? Early indicators lean positive- Moby recently “liked” a behind the scenes photo from the official Kingston & GreyStarr Instagram.

Kingston & GreyStarr will take it to the stage Friday October 13th at Debonair Music Hall opening for Strangelove.

Former Manager and long time collaborator of Daniel Ash (Bauhaus, Tones On Tail, Love And Rockets, Poptone), and executive producer of the 2009 New Tales To Tell: A Tribute To Love And Rockets album (featuring Puscifer, The Flaming Lips, Blaq Audio with album art by Shepard Fairey), industry veteran, Christopher The Minister, has found a new muse in the form of Devon Thompson, who channels Pj Harvey and The Cramps.

I knew after my first meeting with Devon, when she showed up wearing Doc Martens and a Siouxsie Sioux t-shirt, that I was all in on working together. - Christopher The Minister

After just shy of two years of their working together comes the first release of 2023, Soft Like Water. The song was captured in a bare-bones recording environment, which was vital for harnessing the energy and raw emotion of the song.

Soft Like Water was recorded and produced by James Salter (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Ravonettes, Gringo Star) in a classic body shop in Ventura surrounded by motorcycles, vintage cars, parts and collectibles. The drums were set up and mic'd under a vintage Porsche on a car rack, enabling Salter to capture a literal garage sound. Thompson’s power as a performer is showcased in her video that sees a woman refusing to be a doormat, to anyone, including herself.

Devon Thompson will be performing at SXSW and Soft Like Water is available now on digital platforms:
